Reading books to children is an excellent way to spend time together, grow literacy skills, and teach important topics. Here is a list of books about body parts in the topics of fun & interactive, education, and books that teach body part safety:
I dropped my son off at a birthday party on Saturday and – somehow someway – we ended up talking about the birds and the bees and our kids.
And what do you know, she said she’s scared to death to talk to her son about it all. Even though she knows he’s likely already hearing it at school.
Know what I told her?
Read a book about it with him.
Then you don’t have to stare into his eyes while you’re already feeling nervous, but you can both sit together in a comfy place and both look at the book.
Pretty soon, you’ll feel comfortable and so will he.

Do you have any suggestions for books to read to your kids to introduce them to puberty?
You know, I just bought this class called “The Whole Story” to do with my 10 year old daughter. There’s also some on Intoxicated On Life that I’ve seen. A puberty one!
I also suggest “God Made All of Me” by Justin and Lindsey Holcomb. I read it to my daughter at 3 years old. It uses proper private part names and talks about how God made their bodies to be good, about safety and saying no to unwanted physical touch.
Thanks for sharing this recommendation as well!
Thank you so much for this great resource! I just had a related discussion with my 7-year-old son about some of these topics as part of the requirements to earn his Bobcat Badge for scouting (they do an abuse prevention activity), and we had a really good conversation I had been meaning to have for a while, now. Some of the books you linked above will really help reinforce some of the things we discussed.
